Cupcakes are quite the trend nowadays especially for weddings.  The new wedding cake is actuall tiered cupcakes. How  neat is that?  You can actually have different flavors.  You can be as unique as you want and as beautiful as you want.  Or, you can make your cupcakes simple.  All depends on the statement you want to make.
